Wire – Art

Introduction: Exploring Wire-Art.

Wire- art is a new concept in art and craft. It involves enameled Copper and Aluminum wires in natural transparent or color enamel being configured into intricate forms of art, painting, and statues, the art could be beautifully arranged or mounted on the wall. The intricate figurines range from dancing girls to flying birds to animals, airplanes, ships and colorful flowers in copper and aluminum wire. They are classically styled to give Copper, Silver or Gold effect.

The beauty of this art lies in balancing the art and craft in mural form. This is one painting you can literally see through. While some parts of wire- art can be combined with acrylic and paints to give it the extra bit, the others can be mounted on a pedestal and/or hung on the wall giving it a transparent or the third dimensional look.

The most prominent feature of Wire-Art is its versatility. The art is made of rigid wire and can be fixed to an appropriate stand and placed on a desk, table etc. they can also be mounted on a pedestal. Since the artwork is lightweight, they can be independently hung on the walls directly with the help of small metal clips without damaging the walls. Besides this, the wire painting can be mounted on oil painted canvas or textured fabric background, to create a 3D effect. The only difficulty that arises for some of the artworks that can be hung on the walls is that, they are delicate and some of them need to be handled with care.

Although delicate, the one thing that stands apart of the creative is the availability of material and its costs. Wire-Art is one of the cheapest forms of art. The materials needed like electrical wires etc, are available everywhere, some of them which we discard from households as useless. Edwin has found use for the materials that we would not even give a second thought to.

Edwin Fernandes who has started wire painting recently reveals that the talent was always there from childhood. It was only a few years ago did a chance meeting with one of his school friends inspire him to deviate from his professional career and take wire-painting full time. A childhood hobby and talent soon turned into a creative profession. Now that he has retired from his job, Edwin continues to wire paint fulltime, making it his profession. He custom makes and conceptualizes art pieces for business houses and private bodies.
