Friday's drizzle complimented this glittering affair just as well. The birthday celebrations of Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar had the likes of fashion choreographer Prasad Bidappa, Ramesh Dhemla, and many others from the world of fashion, sports and film attending.

The gala event at the Bangalore Palace was marked by the launch of a website for Fernhills Palace Hotel and the release of the royal calender. The occasion was also an opportunity to introduce the audience to the Royal House of Mysore Fashion Line 2008, a designer collection, painstakingly put together and choreographed by the Maharaja himself.

With exotic Russian dancers and Caribbean performers flown in from the island, four fashion sequences and a sumptuous spread, this birthday party was in a league of its own. The clothes showcased, reflected strong traditional influences and mirror- work sarees, wraparounds, cocktail dresses and ghagras, all in bold colours, and highlighted Wadiyar's penchant for fashion.
