You were bogged down by work, and decided to log onto a chat room. You met a beautiful girl called girlinterrupted, online. She flirted like a diva, and spoke like a cat… she sent you her picture… and made your heart go KA-BOOM! You decided to meet.
Online dating has become the "IN" thing. It is hard to ignore the fact that many marriages, love affairs and pen friends have been initiated through the web. In fact, the web is a nice way to know people, provided they are honest about their affairs. It is also easy to dump individuals who look suspicious, provided we are able to decipher the crooks at the right time. Most of you have online friends and dates you would like to meet… and it would be a really terrific idea to meet them in person and know them. It is also a terrific idea to take precautions, because many a times, people are not who they seem. Try following these steps before meeting your online friend…
Do not be pressured by your online friend to meet him/her: Meet your friend when you are ready and convinced enough that you would like to meet him/her. You could start off with a phone call, never give your land line number, you could communicate with your cell phone. If your instincts tell you something is wrong, then maybe there is… Remember: if at any time you decide to change your mind about the meeting, then you have the right to cancel it!
Pay attention to detail: there are always tell tale signs in conversations that you can catch a hold off when someone is lying. Pay attention to it!! Remember: if he never introduces you to his friends or appears dicey about his details... Then something is up!!
Pre-date arrangements: The person you are meeting for the first time will always be a stranger; even if you have communicated with him online for five years. Also remember to carry some money, and wear decent clothes. Remember: to let your folks at home know where you are going to meet him, and leave behind directions and phone numbers and let them know when you will be back home.
Your first meeting: Make sure that your first meeting is in a public place. A place which YOU are familiar with, like a coffee shop … Never arrange for the person to pick you up from home, or drop you. Make your own transportation arrangements. Remember: If you have had a good time, then thank him for it!!! And if you have had a bad time, you always have the option to log off when he logs in…
Hope that the story has an ending that spells, "Happily Ever After"!
