It was rightly said in an article in a newspaper that there is no logic to humor, and Monty Python fans will vouch for it. For those who are unaware, Monty Python is a hit British Comedy show on television, film and stage. The series revolutionized the way humor was presented to the audience. Its trump cards were obscure sequences and plots, confusingly twisted dialogues and abnormal actors who appear to be normal.

Evam, a theatre company staged Always look on the bright side of life, a collection of snap shots from the same Monty Python series, recently in Bangalore at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall on the 23rd of September, 2007. The audience was greeted by a familiar song, Always look on the Bright side of life, followed by a string of advertisements from sponsors being shown on a small screen on stage. It is quite an innovative way for advertising in theatre.

Bad lighting marred the start of the performance, and the dancers could have used a little more exposure considering that they brought a lot of spark into the show. Ratan, a die-hard fan of Monty Python says, "The play reminded me of Mad-ads we used to do in college."

Most of the bookings for the play were done online leaving the theatre hall almost full. The audience appeared to be enjoying the performance. Most were familiar with the popular music, and sequences from famous music artists that were used in the performance; which could have partly attributed to the success of the show.

Karthik meted out a decent performance, but he could use a little help with voice modulation; he appeared to be screaming after a while. Some audience members said he reminded them of a shoddy imitation of Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. "The Jay Leno imitation fell completely flat on his face" says Preethy; a big fan of Leno's show.

Choreographer Mani and the dancers put together an apt string of performances to link the skits together. In the end, Always look on the Bright side of life was nothing but a set of movie snips, dialogues, dances, Popular Music and Power Point Presentations brought together on a common platform, to entertain people.
